As part of a Control of Hazardous Energy Program, training is one of the required components.

There is a required training is for those performing LOTO, so they understand how to perform the process while keeping safe. This training should explain all aspects of performing a Lockout/Tagout while also explaining the different energies the employee may encounter during a lockout process.

There is an additional training aspect for employees who will be affected by Lockout/Tagout. These affected employees are those that work in the area impacted by a lockout, and what they should do in the case of a shutdown and how to treat the equipment. This is for the employee’s direct safety, and also for the safety of the employee servicing the equipment, as releasing a lock prematurely can result in injury or death.

The EHS Center offers the following training presentations to members:

  • Basic Lock-out/Tag-out Training for employees performing the task;
  • Affected employee training
